Home Security is the catalyst for the Smarthome, something I've discussed in the past here and here. Parks Associates, one of the leading research firms in the Smarthome, recently published results of an extensive survey, and they were pretty conclusive - consumers buy home security first, and then they consider other Smarthome devices later.
The most compelling stat is the following: almost 50% of those that owned some kind of connected home security also owned another Smarthome device. For those who did not have home security, less than 7% had a Smarthome device.
The report drew responses from 10,000 consumers.
